A most unusual silver hallmarked rowing oar which was obviously produced as a presentation award / gift for a Victorian boating competition. Silver hallmarks for London 1853 with makers initials. Complete with fine quality brown leatherette presentation case, the interior is constructed in blue velvet and it is fitted for the oar. This is a really beautiful mottled brown glazed example featuring the face of the bearded man on the shoulder and large coat of arms on the belly of the bellermine. The jug dates to about circa 1685.
